Dogecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency that was created in 2013 as a fork of Litecoin, originally based on the Shiba Inu "Doge" internet meme. It uses a proof-of-work consensus mechanism with the Scrypt hashing algorithm. DOGE has no maximum supply cap, with approximately 5 billion new coins mined per year through an inflationary issuance model.
