Security researcher suneal_eth reported the vulnerability on June 10. The engineering team confirmed that privacy transfer proofs could be forged and, on June 11, directly disabled Confidential Transfers (privacy function transfers) by upgrading the Token-2022 program via multi-signature. Subsequently, the official urgently called for verification nodes to upgrade Agave / Jito-Solana v2.2.16 or Firedancer v0.505.20216 and activated the feature switch on the mainnet epoch 805 (UTC June 19 06:00) to completely shut down the ZK ElGamal program pending a full audit. The official emphasized that privacy transfers have not been used on a large scale on the chain, and there are no records of funds being lost. It is understood that this is the second Fiat-Shamir hash field omission issue in the same program, following the first ZK ElGamal vulnerability on April 16 (which was resolved after hotfixes v2.1.21 / v2.2.11). The foundation stated that re-enabling privacy transfers will take at least "several months," and will be reactivated through a governance process after the audit is completed and a secure version of the program is released.
