On December 3, 2024, at 23:00, the Korean Martial Law Command issued Martial Law Order No. 1, announcing the implementation of several measures across South Korea: activities of the National Assembly and local councils, political parties, and political groups are prohibited; gatherings and demonstrations are banned; actions that deny the free democratic system or attempt to subvert it are forbidden; fake news, fabricated public opinion, and false incitement are prohibited; speech and publications are under the control of the Martial Law Command; strikes, work stoppages, and gatherings that cause social unrest are banned; all striking or absent medical personnel must return to work within 48 hours, and violators will be punished according to the law; efforts will be made to minimize inconveniences to ordinary citizens in their daily lives, except for anti-state forces and other subversive elements. Violators of the martial law may be arrested, detained, or searched according to Articles 9 and 14 of the Korean Martial Law Act and may face penalties.
