Venture capitalist George Bachiashvili is on trial for allegedly misappropriating investment returns from former Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili. Bachiashvili allegedly embezzled 8,253.13 bitcoins between 2015 and 2017. He used Ivanishvili's personal funds as collateral to secure a $5 million loan from Cartu Bank, which he then invested in bitcoin mining operations through Bitfury. Ivanishvili's wealth is estimated to be as high as $7.60 billion, equivalent to a quarter of Georgia's GDP. Bachiashvili had previously been released on bail but has now entered a third country.
