Stargate Finance (STG) is a native asset bridge designed to address the blockchain trilemma, which refers to the challenge of achieving decentralization, security, and speed simultaneously in a blockchain. It achieves this by simplifying cross-chain DeFi transactions, allowing users to transfer and exchange assets almost instantly between different blockchains, layer 2 networks, and decentralized applications (dApps). Stargate users can also transfer assets between various decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols and dApps' liquidity pools. The protocol supports transfers between eight chains: Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon, Metis, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Optimism, and Fantom.

Stargate Finance (STG) has migrated from the old contract to the new contract at a 1:1 ratio.The primary use cases for Stargate Finance (STG) include:

1. Exchange: Cross-chain exchange of native assets at a 1:1 ratio, accessing the unified liquidity pool of Stargate.
2. Liquidity Pool: Adding liquidity to Stargate's Omnichain protocol and earning stablecoin rewards with each Stargate transfer.
3. Farming: Stargate liquidity providers can stake their LP tokens in exchange for STG rewards.
4. Staking: STG holders can lock their STG tokens to receive Stargate's governance token, veSTG.

Most cross-chain bridges currently utilize fragmented liquidity, which requires separate pools to store tokens bridged through the bridge. However, Stargate makes this requirement obsolete with its lock+mint and burn+redeem mechanisms. Essentially, these mechanisms destroy tokens at the source and mint new tokens on the target blockchain, providing immediate finality and unified liquidity guarantees. Stargate also utilizes advanced cross-chain bridging mechanisms and a balancing algorithm called the Delta algorithm to ensure timeliness, native assets, and unified liquidity, addressing the trilemma of bridging.
