Q4 2018: max drawdown about 22.99%.</strong> The pressure came from Fed rate hikes, balance-sheet tightening, and trade tensions. The Nasdaq-100 fell from around 7,660 on August 29 to around 5,899 on December 24, 2018, and did not reclaim its high until April 2019. The essence was simple: once the rate and liquidity backdrop shifted, growth valuations had to compress.  </p></div></div></div><div class="bn-block-outer" data-node-type="blockOuter" data-id="6efa9ae1-af62-4f88-9824-57530131f26b"><div class="bn-block" data-node-type="blockContainer" data-id="6efa9ae1-af62-4f88-9824-57530131f26b"><div class="bn-block-content" data-content-type="paragraph"><p class="bn-inline-content"><strong>2. The 2020 COVID shock: max drawdown about 28.03%.</strong> The Nasdaq-100 fell from around 9,719 on February 19 to around 6,994 on March 20, 2020 — a nearly 30% drop in just 22 trading days. This was not a collapse in tech fundamentals. It was a liquidity shock across global risk assets. After the Fed moved quickly to inject liquidity, the Nasdaq-100 reclaimed its high in just 55 trading days. The lesson: the Nasdaq-100 falls fast, but when liquidity turns, it can recover just as fast.  </p></div></div></div><div class="bn-block-outer" data-node-type="blockOuter" data-id="80c18701-fac5-4ddb-a55b-df2a5da6692a"><div class="bn-block" data-node-type="blockContainer" data-id="80c18701-fac5-4ddb-a55b-df2a5da6692a"><div class="bn-block-content" data-content-type="paragraph"><p class="bn-inline-content"><strong>3. November 2021 to late 2022: max drawdown about 35.56%.</strong> This was the most important Nasdaq-100 bear market of the decade. The cause was not one company blowing up. It was persistent inflation, aggressive Fed tightening, surging real rates, and a full repricing of tech-growth valuations. The Nasdaq-100 fell from around 16,573 on November 19, 2021 to around 10,679 on December 28, 2022 — 281 trading days to the low, then another 243 trading days to reclaim the high. With this kind of drawdown, you cannot call a bottom just because “it has fallen a lot.” The underlying rate cycle had changed.  </p></div></div></div><div class="bn-block-outer" data-node-type="blockOuter" data-id="d7c0279a-6b66-465d-bac1-0527835bb967"><div class="bn-block" data-node-type="blockContainer" data-id="d7c0279a-6b66-465d-bac1-0527835bb967"><div class="bn-block-content" data-content-type="paragraph"><p class="bn-inline-content"><strong>4. The tariff-war shock in H1 2025: max drawdown about 22.93%.</strong> This was the fourth 20%+ drawdown of the past decade. The Nasdaq-100 fell from around 22,176 on February 19 to around 17,090 on April 8, 2025, before reclaiming its high on June 24.  The triggers were tariff escalation, trade-policy uncertainty, and growth concerns.For high-valuation tech, tariffs are not just a trade issue. They feed into costs, profit expectations, inflation, and ultimately  H1 2025 was not ordinary volatility.
